cd, 2004, FAMA

With her debut album Nynke immediately made a name for herself. With 'Sielesâlt' (salt of the soul) she introduced the Frisian Fado, a previously unheard-of combination, that instantly made the news and became a great success. The album contains 7 poems of the Dutch poet J.J. Slauerhoff that Nynke translated into Frisian. She sang them on fado compositions that Custódio Castelo wrote originally for Cristina Branco. Furthermore the album contains the song ‘Der wie ris’ with lyrics from Nynke and music from Waldemar Bastos. The melancholy and pureness of the songs touched a wide audience and the album turned gold in The Netherlands. For the translated poems Nynke received the Piter Jelles-priis, a literary prize from the city of Leeuwarden.
