In an earlier album, Guardian, Nynke explored human impatience. This same theme was a source of inspiration for the lyrics and music of Plant. Inactivity is easily as important as activity. And yet here in the West, we’re not very good at it; we like to act instantly and exert our influence when we’re unhappy with something. The Taoist Wu-Wei philosophy offers a new perspective: exertion through non-exertion.
Wu Wei is rooted in the observation of nature: grass grows, a bird
flies, just like that, without any obvious effort or exertion. In
nature, everything moves in a certain direction with a certain energy.
Taoism assumes that our actions often disrupt this natural order. -
